Bcube builds gesture-led web experiences for brand activations, retailers, exhibitions and learning teams. Try Handlight, then discuss an experience shaped around your audience and devices with our team in Dubai, UAE.

Move your hand to guide a trail of light, pinch to gather twelve drifting sparks and open your palm to send a ripple. Handlight is a playful MediaPipe experiment that runs in your browser, with touch and mouse controls when a camera is not available.

## About the demo

Handlight turns a familiar camera into a small instrument for play. Move a fingertip and a glow follows. Pinch to draw in a drifting spark; open your palm and a ripple travels across the sky. Twelve lights become a constellation shaped by you.

A hand, turned into light

MediaPipe tracks the landmarks of one hand in a browser worker. The canvas responds to the index fingertip and the distance between your thumb and finger; it does not need a wearable, controller, app install or account. One hand is enough, and the instructions stay in view while you play.

Made for the device in your hand

The same light field adapts to a phone, tablet or computer. Touch and mouse controls are available without a camera, and arrow keys plus Space and Enter cover the same actions. If a browser blocks camera access, the experiment explains why and offers the other controls.

Camera stays here

Camera access begins only after you choose it. Video frames are processed on this device, one at a time, and are not recorded or sent to a server. MediaPipe's privacy notice says its library can report usage and performance metrics to Google; Handlight's run-page security policy blocks those requests too.

The hand tracker and model load only after you choose camera mode. Everything else is a small static page, so the experience can be tried without downloading the model or granting camera access.

Where it could go next

The playground is ours, but gesture-led interaction can fit a brand activation, a product discovery tool, an exhibition, a museum or a learning experience. A commissioned version can respond to a brand's visual language and gestures that make sense for its audience, with controls that remain available for visitors who cannot or prefer not to use a camera.

## Try this

1. Choose Start with camera, allow access, and bring one hand into view
2. Move your index finger to guide the glowing cursor around the sky
3. Pinch your thumb and index finger to pull in a nearby light
4. Open your hand to send a ripple through the constellation
5. Gather all twelve lights, then make another constellation
6. Try touch, mouse or keyboard controls without turning on a camera

## Requirements

Status: Working prototype

Camera mode needs a current browser with webcam access on a secure (HTTPS) connection and permission to use the camera. Touch, mouse and keyboard controls work without camera access.

Download: About 20 MB for the hand tracker and model on first camera use; touch mode needs no model download

Built with: MediaPipe Tasks Vision, WebAssembly, Web Workers, Canvas 2D, getUserMedia

## What it could become

### Brand activations

A playful, camera-led moment that invites visitors to take part and leaves them with a visual mark they helped make.

### Retail and product discovery

Let a customer explore a product or collection through simple gestures on their own phone, tablet or a display in store.

### Exhibitions and learning

Make a screen respond to visitors without a controller, while touch and keyboard options keep the experience open to more people.

## Want an experience people can reach into?

We can shape a gesture-led experience around your brand, audience and venue, with camera, touch and keyboard input designed together. Tell us where people will use it and what you want them to discover.

## Questions before you start

### Does Handlight upload camera video?

No. Camera frames are processed in the browser and are not recorded or sent to a server. The run-page security policy also blocks MediaPipe usage and performance metric requests to Google.

### Can people use it without a camera?

Yes. Handlight works with touch, mouse and keyboard controls. A commissioned experience can include camera interactions alongside input methods that work without camera access.

### Will it work on every phone or computer with a camera?

Camera use depends on the browser, a secure HTTPS page and the visitor granting permission. Hand tracking performance also depends on the device, lighting and camera quality. We provide touch, mouse and keyboard controls when camera use is unavailable.

### Can the experience use our brand and gestures?

Yes. A commissioned build can use your visual identity, products, content and interaction design. We define and test gestures with the audience, environment and target devices in mind.

### What do you need to scope a project?

Share the audience, venue, target devices, interaction goals, visual references and launch date. Tell us whether it will run on visitors’ phones, a kiosk or a public display, and whether it needs to be embedded in your site.

## Gesture-led browser experiences for your audience.

Tell us about the audience, venue, gestures and devices you have in mind. Reference imagery, interaction requirements and a launch date help us scope the experience.
